Alert presence - Battlecry of Freedom

Opportunities to practise transformation can suddenly arise, such as an unexpected disturbance to the mind. Unexpected occurrences can evoke surprise, amazement, shock, fear, apprehension, wonder, disbelief, laughter – all of which offer the possibility of alert presence in the moment. Such opportunities should not be wasted.

To awaken in the next moment - Battlecry of Freedom

Awakening is possible in each and every present moment. Awakening cuts through any sense of needing to work through patterning. In the moment of discovering rigpa, patterning disappears. Patterning may re-emerge in the next moment, but that is also an opportunity to transform and awaken. In the moment patterning occurs again, rigpa is lost. There is, however, always the opportunity to awaken in the next moment – to appreciatively embrace whatever opportunity is encountered whilst riding the mind.

Creating an impetus - Battlecry of Freedom

In Buddhism, the cultivation of skilful activity is often presented as the accumulation of merit. Accumulation in this context refers to increasing the frequency of skilful awakening activity. It is not accumulation in the sense of putting pennies in a piggy bank. Increasing the frequency and recognition of awakening activity creates an impetus. Skilful action must at first be engaged through effort, determination, and application of the methods of Mind Training. Eventually it becomes a way of being. This is accumulating merit. This is awakening.

Protection from delusion - Battlecry of Freedom

Emptiness is protection from delusion, because it corrects the relationship with form. It reunites that which delusion attempts to split. Emptiness makes it possible to awaken to the realisation of the nonduality of emptiness and form. Then the indivisibility of emptiness, energy, and form can be realised.
