Emptiness is the key - Battlecry of Freedom

Emptiness is the key, because emptiness is the sphere which is denied. Form is easily recognised and there is experience with manipulating form, but there is a disconnection and lack of experience of the sphere of emptiness. This disconnection can be overcome through meditation practices that introduce the experience of emptiness, either through analysis or examination. Emptiness can also be discovered through both happy and sad life experiences. The sphere of emptiness can become available through devoted relationship with a teacher.

Inseparability - Battlecry of Freedom

In Buddhism, reality is examined through the three spheres of being in order to discover their inseparability as the fourth sphere. The sphere of emptiness is pregnant with the possibility of form arising. The sphere of energy is the tension between being and not-being, emptiness and form. Intangible form manifests from emptiness – thought, emotion, attentiveness, intention, sensory perception. These are empty, yet experienced. The sphere of form is the dimension of tangible appearance – physicality, activity, sensory experience. The three spheres—or dimensions—of being are inseparable – in the same way that the height, width, and depth of a three-dimensional object are inseparable. To experience the inseparability of the dimensions of being is to awaken.

Practise gratitude to everyone and everything, everywhere. - Battlecry of Freedom

Challenging and supporting circumstances each offer opportunities for practice. Practitioners awaken to the practice of transformation through relationship with others. Without interaction with other beings and the circumstances of life, there would be nothing with which to engage for training the mind.

Practitioners do not stifle bad circumstances, but embrace them with appreciation as an opportunity to practice. Practitioners also embrace good circumstances, with appreciation and gratitude.

Open-hearted communication is bodhicitta. - Illusory Advice

Open-hearted communication is bodhicitta. If you give the present and get upset that no one noticed that yours was wrapped more beautifully than anyone else’s; if you feel that insufficient applause is given to the choice of gift; if you feel that your friend moved on too quickly to their next present and did not dwell long enough on appreciating yours – then the giving and the gift were reference-points for you, complete with neurotic stickiness, and not a freely-given act of generosity, friendship, and warmth.

She is who she is – and perfect from the perspective of her beginningless enlightenment. - Illusory Advice

Talking to an apprentice about relationship:

She is who she is – and perfect from the perspective of her beginningless enlightenment. She is the person with whom you fell in love. The traits that you label as laziness, thoughtlessness, lack of care, and distance are simply her style of manifesting the confusion of samsara – that you are now noticing. During courtship you did not notice the things about your partner that conflicted with your usual patterns because your focus was on enjoying the display of your partner. Through wishing to continue to enjoy that display you enabled your partner to be more and more sparkly and beautiful.
